The Public Works Department improves the quality of life for our residents and businesses by providing essential public service through maintaining the public infrastructures along with planning and executing special projects and events.
The Public Work Department consists of two divisions:

STREETS DIVISION
Streets staff are responsible for all the Leander streets. They perform asphalt patching, resurfacing, crack sealing, pothole patching, grading uneven streets, sidewalks and traffic signals. This division also performs drainage system and culvert repairs. They also respond to emergency callout situations by barricading, sandbagging, cleaning storm drains and sanding roadways as needed.
Mowing staff mow public right-of-ways, drainage channels, and detention ponds. They trim trees and bush that may obstruct line of sight.
City Facilities staff maintains all the City facilities including City Hall, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, Fire Stations and Administration, Pat Bryson Municipal Hall, Police Department, Leander Library, Planning-Davis House and Economic Development-Adams House.
Sign staff maintains all street signs and addresses issues with roadside signage. Staff complies with the requirements established by the Federal Highway Administration.
Vehicle staff performs repairs and preventative maintenance on all machinery, trailers, service trucks and City vehicles which include Police, Parks, Public Works, and Administration. This group maintains maintenance records, orders parts and obtains state annual inspections.
WATER AND WASTEWATER DIVISION
Water staff manage the daily operations of the water distribution systems which consist of 4 pump stations, 3 ground storage tanks, 2 elevated storage tanks, maintain miles of distribution pipe lines, repair water mains, and take water samples in compliance with the TCEQ requirements. The water quality reports can be viewed by accessing the Water Quality Report tab to left side of navigation bar on the page.
Wastewater staff is responsible for the daily maintenance of miles of collection systems (pipes), sewer manholes, 1 treatment plant and 7 lift stations. The division supports the collection system to over 8500 sanitary sewer customers.
