Office of the Fire Marshal

Prevention & Life Safety Division

Purpose

The Office of the Fire Marshal, through the Prevention and Life Safety Division of the Leander Fire Department, conducts fire code and life safety reviews of new developments, inspections, and performs fire and code complaint investigations with the intent of saving lives, protecting property, strengthening emergency prevention efforts and maintaining a safe and comfortable community.

Mission

Our mission is to prevent the loss of lives and property of the citizens of Leander by educating the public about the threat and prevention of fire, enforcing adopted fire and life safety codes and standards, investigating hazard complaints, determining the origin and cause of fires, and pursue those responsible for the crimes of arson.

Services to the Community

The Prevention and Life Safety Division strives to reduce the risk relating to the impacts of fire and explosion hazards where people live, work and gather. We are actively involved in the review of plans and inspecting all businesses and subdivisions to ensure they are safe. The Division is also responsible for the determination of the origin and cause of fires. The determination of a fire cause allows the Department to identify arson or criminal intent, pursue those allegedly responsible, and to eliminate potential hazards within our community. The Fire Marshal is also responsible for leading all Code Enforcement team efforts and associated services provided to our community.
