Volunteer Opportunities

Victim Services Advocate Volunteer

For information on becoming a Victim Services Advocate (Volunteer Position):

In order to meet the extensive needs of our community with such a small staff, we utilize specially trained advocates. Victim Services Advocates work various shifts, 7 days a week, and respond to a wide range of calls such as: homicide, suicide, accidental death, robbery, sexual assault, and family violence, as well as others. These unpaid, advocates are trained to assist with death notifications, provide crisis intervention and education, and other relevant services.

Victim Services Advocates are well-trained and committed to assisting and serving members of their community whose lives have been touched by a tragic event. These are caring individuals who are willing to share their time, knowledge, and insights in order to help guide and assist others through a very difficult time. The coordinator is readily available to support the advocates at all times.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be at least twenty-one years old
  • Must meet the core values of the Leander Police Department and follow policy
  • Complete a Volunteer and Personal History Statement
  • Be open, non-judgmental attitudes with genuine concern and empathy for crime victims and tragedy survivors
  • Be able to cooperate with police, staff, and other agencies
  • Have excellent interpersonal communication skills and a high comfort level with telephone interactions
  • Ability to work with minimal guidance
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and proof of insurance
  • Must have your own transportation and telephone

Police Chaplain Volunteer

For information on becoming a Police Chaplain (Volunteer Position):

Citizens from the faith community serve as Police Chaplains. The Chaplaincy Program provides assistance to police and serves all aspects of the Department during critical incidents.

Required Qualifications

  • All police chaplain applicants must be endorsed, licensed, or ordained ministers with a minimum of 5 years experience as a minister, clergy, counselor, or equivalent.
  • Must be at least twenty-one years old
