Smoke Alarm & Home Safety Program

About Home Safety Surveys

Home Safety surveys are designed to identify potential fire and life-safety hazards.

The survey generally takes about one hour and covers the following areas:

  • Exterior
  • Interior
  • Garage
  • Attic
  • Exit drills
  • Kitchen safety
  • Smoke alarm check and install

To request a visit, please complete Smoke Alarm and Home Safety Request Form. This is a free service to all the customers within our response area. We will make every effort to accommodate your schedule.

Requests are processed through the Fire Marshal's Office and require approval prior to being scheduled. You will receive an email or phone call from one of our staff to confirm your visit. Please feel free to call 512-528-2983 to speak with someone in the Prevention and Life Safety Division.

A Home Fire-Safety survey is not a substitute for a professional inspection and cleaning of fireplaces and furnaces.
