Theme: "Action Starts with Me"

In collaboration with the Leander Public Arts and Culture Commission, the City of Leander observes and honors the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a march and celebration.

MLK March (10 a.m.)

The march will leave from Camacho Elementary at 10 a.m. and end at Old Town Park where there will be a celebration featuring performances from dancers, musicians, and spoken word artists.

Main Stage Schedule (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

  • 11:00 - Welcome by Mayor Christine DeLisle
  • 11:05 - Invocation by Bishop L.A. Wilkerson, Senior Pastor at Agapé Christian Ministries
  • 11:10 - Flag Ceremony by Troops 258 and 358
  • 11:15 - ”Lift Every Voice and Sing” by Nah’Ryan Symone
  • 11:20 - MLK Essay Contest winners, presented by Atmos Energy
  • 11:30 - Proclamation by Na'Cole Thompson, Council Place 4
  • 11:40 - Keynote remarks by Paige Hubbard (intro by Remi Jobi) 
  • 11:50 - Special Acknowledgement of partners and sponsors
  • 12:00 - Performance by Gracie Barra Cedar Park
  • 12:10 - Performance by Austin Haze
  • 12:20 - Performance by Chinese School of Dance
  • 12:30 - Performance by Mariachi Las Alteñas
  • 12:50 - BREAK
  • 1:20 - Performance by Destiny Bethune (Spoken Word)
  • 1:30 - Performance by Ananya Vinodkumar
  • 1:40 - Performance by Destiny Bethune (Mime Dance)
  • 1:50 - Performance by Great Promise Dancers

Day of Celebration Project

The Martin Luther King, Jr., National Day of Service is a defining moment each year when Americans across the country step up to make communities more equitable and take action to create the beloved community of Dr. King’s dream. This year we are partnering with Brighter Days Food Pantry for a food drive. Please bring your donations to the Leander Parks and Recreation booth at the MLK Day March and Celebration event on Saturday, Jan. 27.
