Garbage & Recycling
Local residential and commercial collection services are provided by Clawson Disposal (ACDI). Garbage collection for each Leander subdivision, rural area, and commercial site occurs once a week, Monday through Friday.
Residential service includes a 95-gallon container and up to five additional garbage bags outside of the container of no more than 30 pounds each (i.e., 30-gallon bags). See below for details on the brush and bulky items.
Clawson Disposal does not operate on the following days:
- New Year's Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day

If your collection day is on or after one of the above holidays, services will resume on the next calendar day.
Bulky waste items (washers, dryers, water heaters, furniture, etc.) that do not fit in the container will be handled case-by-case basis for an additional fee. Please call Clawson Disposal at 512-930-5490 to make arrangements.

Temporary Services
The city maintains non-exclusive franchise agreements with additional service providers for temporary, short-term, or single-occurrence projects. These services are primarily used on construction sites, for remodeling or repair projects, or to facilitate the removal of junk, surplus goods, and debris by furnishing a roll-off or other commercial container to transport solid waste to a separate facility.

Temporary services do not include solid waste disposal and collection services that are required as part of the normal business operations of a commercial, industrial, or public enterprise. They also do not include services for which an exclusive franchise is granted.
Brush items (i.e., leaves, tree branches) may be bagged or bundled and left out for pickup on your regularly scheduled garbage collection day. However, branches must be cut down to no more than 4-feet long and grouped in bundles of 40 pounds or less. Branch bundles must be tied with string or rope capable of holding together when lifted.
Clawson Disposal may pick up bulk items (washers, dryers, water heaters, furniture, etc.) for an additional fee. Electronics such as televisions and computer monitors are not accepted. Please call Clawson Disposal at 512-930-5490 and ask about the Bag Tag Program to schedule a particular pickup of bulky items.

Recyclables
See descriptions of accepted recyclable materials:
Paper
All paper items must be dry and free from food contamination. Types include:
- Newspapers, magazines, and office paper
- Junk mail and phone books
- Paperboard or cardboard such as retail boxes, food or beverage package containers, etc.
Cardboard boxes should be flattened or reduced in size to fit within your recycle container.
Large cardboard items that do not fit in the recycle container may be handled case-by-case basis for an additional fee. Please call Clawson Disposal at 512-930-5490 to make arrangements.
Plastic Containers Number 1 through 7
Hard plastic containers marked with recycle symbol numbers 1 through 7 are accepted. Please rinse items and remove lids before setting out for pickup. Examples include:
- Water and soda bottles
- Detergent bottles
- Milk jugs
- Cooking oil bottles
- Syrup bottles
- Margarine tubs
Metal
(please rinse)
Metal cans and most small metal items are accepted. Please rinse items before setting out for pickup. Examples include:
- Aluminum cans
- Aluminum foil (no food contamination)
- Steel and tin cans
Glass
Clear, brown, and green glass items are accepted. Please rinse items and remove lids before setting out for pickup. Examples include:
- Beverage containers
- Jars
Non-Recyclables
The following items are not accepted.
- Light bulbs
- Ceramics and mirrors
- Batteries and electronics
- Plastic bags
- Pie plates
- Motor oil cans
- Contaminated aluminum foil
Yard Waste
Customers should place tree branches in small, secured bundles and bagged leaves.
The City of Leander will host a residential fall cleanup event at the Public Works Department facility, 607 Municipal Drive, on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 8 am to noon.
The event is a non-hazardous waste drop-off for residents who live in the Leander city limits only. See details about the Residential Fall Cleanup Event.
For items that Clawson Disposal does not accept, please contact these service providers to confirm their policies and fees. Some recycling centers may take computers, peripherals, entertainment equipment, office equipment, appliances, household hazardous materials, and yard waste.
