Construction begins on Raider Way, Woodview Drive

08/15/2023 — City contractors have started work on roadway improvements to Raider Way and Woodview Drive in Leander, which may take up to two years to complete.rw_altwalk

Although lane closures are anticipated as part of the project's first phase, two-way vehicle traffic will remain open on Raider Way through the Fall 2023-Spring 2024 school year to minimize disruption to school activities.

Starting Tuesday, Aug. 22, contractors will set up traffic cones along the outer edges of Raider Way between Crystal Falls Parkway and Woodview Drive to allow for work in the in the right-of-way, which includes relocation of utilities and construction of detention ponds. Along Woodview Drive, the north sidewalk will be closed to allow for water line construction.

Pedestrian routes

Normal walking paths around Rouse High School and Wiley Middle School grounds will change due to construction activity. Alternative routes will be marked to safely redirect students and pedestrians away from construction zones.

Bike safety

Bike riders must either rider on Raider Way with vehicle traffic or walk bikes next to pedestrians on the new walking paths. Bike riding in the walking paths on school campus will not be permitted.

Crosswalks

Students walking from Stewart Crossing or Marbella neighborhoods should be careful and look for crosswalks when crossing driveways on Rouse High School property. Drivers should use extreme caution and yield to pedestrians in these designated areas.

Traffic control

Construction crews will implement traffic control measures to prioritize the safety of pedestrians, including reduced speed limits, signage, barriers, and flagging operations. Stop and Slow paddles may be used to adjust traffic.

Work hours

The timeframe for major construction activity along Raider Way and Woodview Drive will be limited to 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to minimize disruption to incoming and outgoing vehicle traffic. However, contractors may still be in the area of Rouse and Wiley school campuses from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on most days.

Project description

Raider Way and E. Woodview Drive will be widened to a three-lane road with curb, gutter, storm sewers, street lighting, water quality facilities, detention facilities, sidewalks, crosswalks, and bicycle lanes. Improvements extend north on Raider Way from Crystal Falls Parkway to Woodview Drive and west on Woodview Drive from Raider Way to Toll 183A access road. The project also includes traffic signal modifications at the Crystal Falls Parkway/Raider Way intersection, and other improvements to the Raider Way/Woodview Drive intersection.
