Phase 4 water conservation in effect

02/12/2024 — Phase 4 water conservation (no outdoor watering) is in effect in Leander to prepare for Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority (BCRUA) contractors shutting down and replacing 1,400 feet of the underwater pipeline that is Leander's primary source for potable water from Lake Travis.

Pipeline construction, which begins Feb. 28,  will require a shutdown of the BCRUA water treatment plant. This will reduce Leander's overall capacity of potable water from 25 million gallons per day (MGD) to 9 MGD as Leander will have to rely on its smaller Sandy Creek Water Treatment Plant. Leander is transitioning to Phase 4 on Feb. 12 in an effort to reduce water demands ahead of the pipeline shutdown. The project is expected to be completed by the first week of April.

During Phase 4, Leander water customers should make sure their irrigation systems are turned off and restrict all other non-essential water use.
